Mathematics of Auditing

 

Internationalization, digital transformation, and high competition are often stated as the most important challenges of the profession of audit and assurance providers. The Master course Mathematics of Auditing focuses on the steadily increasing importance of mathematical skills to systematically fulfill the legal requirements of regulators and to provide high-quality audit and assurance services on financial and non-financial internal/managerial and external accounting procedures and reporting outcomes.

 
Course Program and Prerequisites

To participate in the course Mathematics of Auditing, students need a sound background on financial accounting and auditing in line with the requirements of the EU Directives and a strong fundament of statistical and econometrical techniques. Competences in non-financial accounting, corporate sustainability, and sustainability reporting and assurance are welcome but not needed. The course is jointly arranged by cooperation partners from the strategic office of an internationally leading audit and advisory firm. The agenda of the course can be summarized as follows.

  • Chapter 8: Advanced Sampling Techniques
  • Chapter 9: Forming Positive and Negative Audit Opinions
  • Chapter 10: Forming Unqualified and Qualified Audit Opinions

 

Language and Incoming Students

  • The entire course is conducted in English. All documents (incl., audit and assurance standards) are provided in English.
  • Incoming students are warmly welcome to this extracurricular course.
  • No limitation of the number of participants.

 

Examination and Timetable

The course Mathematics of Auditings ends with a final written exam of 60 minutes. The exam is conducted in an open-source style, i.e., students can use all printed and written offline-documents to deal with the assignments of the exam. The course is scheduled to take place for the next time in the summer semester 2020. Further details are provided in due time.
